What’s your biggest weakness?

Some people love this question, others hate it.

But how should you answer it?

My take on it is that you should always pre-prepare an answer for this – you want to make sure that if it comes up in your interview, you’re relishing the chance to answer it, rather than the blood draining from your face in fear. 😱

The question is asked (in my opinion) to see if someone can articulate that they are still in need of improvement. Noone is perfect and if you think you are, you’re probably coming across as arrogant.

The best options to think about are genuine areas that you feel like you could improve.

Think about an area or skill that you are confident with, give solid examples of your current skill level and then talk about how you are still always striving to learn more – excel skills for example.

Or something that you struggled with early in your career but talk about how it has improved significantly over time – this could something as simple as self-confidence or being a nervous interviewer.

You’ll come across as having high standards because you’re continually looking for personal improvements but actually giving you an opportunity to give some positive examples.

Above all else, you’ll sound humble and open to being trained or taking on new information and ideas.

And if you get really stuck just tell them you’re an Arsenal fan and you’ll probably get a laugh! 😅 🤣
